A pr 1 99 9 Paramagnetic limiting of the upper critical field of the layered organic superconductor κ – ( BEDT - TTF ) 2 Cu ( SCN )
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report detailed measurements of the interlayer magnetoresistance of the layered organic superconductor κ–(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(SCN)2 for temperatures down to 0.5 K and fields up to 30 tesla. The upper critical field is determined from the resistive transition for a wide range of temperatures and field directions. For magnetic fields parallel to the layers, the upper critical field increases approximately linearly with decreasing temperature. The upper critical field at low temperatures is compared to the Pauli paramagnetic limit, at which singlet superconductivity should be destroyed by the Zeeman splitting of the electron spins. The measured value is comparable to a value for the paramagnetic limit calculated from thermodynamic quantities but exceeds the limit calculated from BCS theory. The angular dependence of the upper critical field shows a cusp-like feature for fields close to the layers, consistent with decoupled layers. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Observation of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state in the quasi-two-dimensional organic superconductor κ-(BEDT-TTF) 2 Cu(NCS) 2. Abstract Single crystals of the layered organic type II superconductor, κ-(BEDT-TTF) 2 Cu(NCS) 2 , have been studied in magnetic fields of up to 33 T and at temperatures between 0.5 K and 11 K using a compact differential suscep-tometer. When the magnetic field...

The specific heat of the layered organic superconductor kappa-(BEDT-TTF)(2)Cu(NCS)(2), where BEDT-TTF is bisethylenedithio-tetrathiafulvalene, has been studied in magnetic fields up to 28 T applied perpendicular and parallel to the superconducting layers. In parallel fields above 21 T, the superconducting transition becomes first order, which signals that the Pauli-limiting field is reached. In...
متن کاملSuperconductivity, incoherence and Anderson localization in the crystalline organic conductor (BEDT-TTF)3Cl2·2H2O at high pressures
The conducting properties of the pressure-induced, layered organic superconductor (BEDT-TTF)3Cl2·2H2O have been studied at 13.5 and 14.0 kbar using low temperatures, high magnetic fields and two-axis rotation. An upper critical field that is significantly larger than that expected from the Pauli paramagnetic limit is observed when the field is applied parallel to the conducting layers. The angl...
متن کاملMagnetic-field-induced 1st order transition to FFLO state at paramagnetic limit in 2D superconductors
We have recently reported the first direct calorimetric observation of a magnetic-field-induced first-order phase transition into a high-field FFLO superconducting state at the Clogston-Chandrasekar ‘Pauli’ paramagnetic limitHp in a 2D superconductor κ − (BEDT-TTF) 2 Cu(NCS) 2 . The high-field state is both higher entropy and strongly paramagnetic, as thermodynamically required for the FFLO sta...
